About the Qualia Name

Qualia is defined as subjective experiences, "the ways things seem to us" and the "ineffable" quality of our sensations. It is the perfect name for a company that creates visitor-centric experiences that are engaging and accessible to all.

Company Background

Qualia began as RMD in 2002 and was renamed Qualia Creative Limited in 2009. The company shortened its name in 2016 to emphasise its core expertise in providing new experiences that people can connect with. The company is run by Richard Mathers MA, its founder and Director.

Qualia has an excellent reputation for combining innovative thinking with place-specific sensitivity and has worked on several listed buildings, scheduled ancient monuments and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Recent projects include an interpretive planning study for the water towers at Edinburgh Castle, the creation of new visitor experiences at York's Castle Museum and a series of bespoke interactive learning bays for York's National Railway Museum.
